After showing gains earlier this week, the cryptocurrency market was seen mixed over the past 24 hours, as 5 of the top 10 cryptos registered gains, while the other 5 registered losses. At the time of writing, Bitcoin was nearly flat, holding above the $3,900 mark.

Stellar rises 5.5%

Of the 5 top 10 cryptos to register gains over the past 24 hours, Stellar (XLM) registered the most significant price increase, climbing around 5.5% as of the time of writing. Rising to a 2-month high, Stellar was able to climb up the top 10 ranking, becoming the 7th-largest crypto by market cap. Over the past week, the XLM token showed impressive gains, rising more than 28%.

Voice communication company receives blockchain patent

After showing promise in the financial market, and demonstrating abilities to monitor supply chains in the retail industry, blockchain may be headed to another sector: voice communication. British firm NewVoiceMedia, owned by American communication technology giant Vonage, has recently received a patent for using blockchain for voice communication. According to the patent filing, the blockchain system is aimed at improving recording and timestamping of recorded calls. The filing reads: “the use of distributed database nodes inherent in a blockchain protects data against tampering, falsification, or loss due to individual nodes going offline.”
