Cryptos rally, recover $5 billion in lost market cap
The cryptocurrency market surged over the past 24 hours, as all top 20 cryptos registered gains. As of the time of writing, two top 10 cryptos, EOS and Litecoin, showed double digit gains, while Bitcoin was up more than 3%, nearing the $3,900 mark. The crypto market has now regained all of the losses seen last Monday, reaching a combined market cap of more than $130 billion, up from $125 billion.
Today’s highlights: Global markets mostly lower
- Volatility expected for CAD: The monthly trade balance report, which was delayed due to the US government shutdown, will be released in Canada today at 13:30 GMT. At 15:00 GMT, the Bank of Canada will be announcing its latest rate decision. The releases could generate volatility for the Canadian Dollar and other key financial instruments in Canada.
- Asia mostly lower: Despite US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo saying the US and China are “on the cusp” of reaching a deal that will end the trade war, markets in Asia were still mostly lower this morning. At the time of writing, both the China50 and JPN225 indices were seen lower, while the HKG50 registered gains.
- Geneva Motor Show starts tomorrow: Considered one of the most important annual events in the automotive industry, the Geneva International Motor Show will officially open in Switzerland tomorrow. Press have already been allowed entrance to the premises, and announcements coming out of the show could potentially impact leading car makers’ stocks.
