Wall Street closes higher
US markets finished higher yesterday, as the DJ30, SPX500 and NSDQ100 indices all closed in the green. For the SPX500, yesterday’s close marked a new high for 2019. The tech sector lifted markets, as Amazon, Google, Apple and Facebook all registered gains. Several stocks reached fresh all-time higher, including PayPal, Visa and Procter & Gamble.
Today’s highlights: UK prepares for another Brexit vote
- UK Parliament rejects “No Deal Brexit”: After rejecting Theresa May’s revised Brexit deal on Tuesday, British lawmakers yesterday voted against leaving the EU without a deal in place. After the vote, the GBP leaped 2%. Today, British MPs will vote on postponing the Brexit deadline, currently planned for March 29th.
- Facebook and JNJ decline after hours: Following significant interference in Facebook’s platform’s activity, alongside its Instagram and WhatsApp apps, the FB stock fell 1.3% after hours. The Johnson & Johnson stock declined 1.8% after hours, following a court ruling that the company should pay $29 million in a talcum-related cancer trial.
