Fed rate decision coming today
The Federal Open Market Committee will conclude its 2-day meeting today and announce its rate decision and economic projection at 18:00 GMT, followed by a press conference with Fed Chair Jerome Powell. The decision could generate volatility in US markets and impact other markets as well.
Today’s highlights: Global markets react to US-China trade talks uncertainty
- DJ30 snaps win streak: Conflicting reports regarding the progress of the US-China trade talks weighed on markets yesterday, causing the DJ30 to snap its 4-day winning streak. The SPX500 closed nearly flat, while the NSDQ100 eked out small gains. While Apple closed lower, other big tech companies finished in the green, including Microsoft, which further added to its all-time high.
- Google’s new gaming platform impacts competitors: Google unveiled its Stadia gaming platform yesterday, which will enable players to stream high-end video games without the need of a specific console or gaming PC. As a result the company’s main Japanese competitors in the sector, Sony and Nintendo, both registered losses. As part of the unveiling, Google declared a partnership with AMD, causing its stock to spike 11.8%.
