Cryptocurrencies reach new yearly highs
After showing relatively low volatility over the weekend, the cryptocurrency market registered impressive gains over the past 24 hours, as all top 10 cryptos were in the green. At the time of writing, Bitcoin was up more than 8%, crossing the $8,700 mark for the first time this year. Litecoin was the only top 10 crypto to show double digit gains, up more than 11% at the time of writing, reaching price levels not seen since June of last year.
Today’s highlights: DJ30 posts worst weekly losing streak since 2011
- Wall Street shows slight recovery: US markets closed higher on Friday, after President Trump said he believes the trade war with China could be over soon. However, the DJ30, SPX500 and NSDQ100 all finished the week at a loss, with the DJ30 closing lower for the 5th consecutive week – its longest losing streak since 2011. US markets will be closed today in observance of Memorial Day.
- Cannabis stocks on the rise: Financial services company Jefferies rated medical cannabis grower Aphria for the first time last week, giving it a “buy” rating. As a result, Aphria leaped more than 14%, lifting other cannabis stocks with it. On eToro, investors can gain exposure to the medical cannabis sector through the CannabisCare CopyPortfolio.
