Wall Street closes mostly lower
Both the SPX500 and DJ30 finished lower yesterday, while the NSDQ100 eked out small gains. The losses are attributed to reports that the US-China trade deal might not be as close as initially thought. Several stocks finished at all-time highs, including Boeing, Nike and Etsy. Both HP and Square released earnings reports after the bell, showing worse-than-expected results and falling 9% and 6%, respectively. Wall Street could be impacted by the Advance GDP report, which was delayed due to the recent government shutdown, and will be released today at 13:30 GMT.
Today’s highlights: Trade tensions weigh on markets
- Lower volatility seen in crypto markets: The crypto market showed relatively small price movements over the past 24 hours, as 6 of the top 10 cryptos showed changes of 1% or less. At the time of writing, Bitcoin was nearly flat higher, holding above the $3,800 mark. The largest price movement was registered by EOS, which climbed nearly 3%.
- British MPs vote in favor of “meaningful” Brexit vote next month: British Members of Parliament yesterday voted on a few amendments proposed for the Brexit process. One of the amendments that passed will obligate PM Theresa May to hold a “meaningful” Brexit vote mid-march. The mid-march vote options include delaying the Brexit deadline and holding a second referendum.
