Introducing: Partial closure of open positions

Here at eToro, we are constantly making efforts to ensure that your trading and investing experience is optimal. We listen to user feedback and continuously look for new ways to cater to our clients’ needs. Therefore, we have recently launched a new feature on the eToro platform, which enables you to close only part of an open position.

Now, you can remove some of the funds from an open position, or several open positions, while still keeping it open. This comes in handy when you want to reduce your exposure to a certain market, pocket your profits, or free up some funds. This new function is live on the platform and you can start using it today.

How do I close part of my trade?

Go to your portfolio and click on the position which you want to partially close. Click on “Close Trade” and a popup will appear. Notice that below the trade summary table, there is a checkbox which reads “Close only part of the trade.”

Once you check the box, a new input box will appear, enabling you to choose the sum you wish to see back in your account once you partially close the trade:

Simply input the amount you wish to close and then click on “Close Trade.” That’s it. The position will stay open with the remaining funds and the sum from the closed trade will be returned to your available balance. If you have Take Profit or Stop Loss orders in place, they will adjust accordingly in proportion to the remaining funds within the trade.

We hope that you will find the partial closure function beneficial, and that you will use it to improve your trading experience on the eToro platform.

eToro is a multi-asset platform which offers both investing in stocks and cryptoassets, as well as trading CFD assets.

Please note that CFDs are complex instruments and come with a high risk of losing money rapidly due to leverage. 65% of retail investor accounts lose money when trading CFDs with this provider. You should consider whether you understand how CFDs work, and whether you can afford to take the high risk of losing your money.

Cryptoassets are unregulated and can fluctuate widely in price and are, therefore, not appropriate for all investors. Trading cryptoassets is not supervised by any EU regulatory framework. Past performance is not an indication of future results. This is not investment advice.
